Matt Jr.

Fine...I'll admit it. Madeline looks A LOT like her daddy. I hope she gets some of my traits... :)

Time Flies

I've posted before about Madeline's friends that were all born around the same time. I worked with their moms. It's fun to get together and let the girls play and talk about baby stuff. I just can't believe how fast time flies and how big these girls are getting!

Struttin' her Stuff...

Grandpa Steve and Grandma Julie sent Madeline an early Christmas gift so she could enjoy it now. She loves this thing. It's just a little weird seeing such a little body cruising around. She'll be walking in no time! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa! video

We Voted!

It is a rainy day here in San Diego. I took Madeline out in the rain (which is a first since it never rains here) and it didn't seem to bother her too much, except she was blinking at a very rapid rate. We walked over to our polling place and stood in line for about an hour. Madeline made friends with everyone in line and was very patient and hardly made a peep.

I have been feeling very negative the last few weeks because I worry about the world we live in and how it is declining. I'm sure this worry is mostly due to Madeline in my life. I desperately hope she has an education, society, and future that helps her be safe and happy and especially allows her to live a life that is in accordance with our Heavenly Father's teachings. Through this negativity and worry, I am grateful that despite our country's shortcomings, we still have freedoms. This political year has been an interesting one. I have been more involved than ever before. It is a blessing to be able to stand up for what you believe in. I take great comfort in knowing there is a greater plan and that our Heavenly Father is aware of each of us.

Even though right now Madeline thinks her "I voted" sticker is a cracker, I hope someday she'll take pride in voting and always stand up for what is right even if it isn't popular. I hope I can teach her how to be a good citizen and even a better daughter of God.

Happy Halloween

I know...it's not Halloween yet, but last weekend we had our church party, so we got all dressed up. My sister-in-law, Jennifer got Madeline this darling witch's costume and Grandma Julie made a hat to match. Thanks Jen and Mom...she looked absolutely darling. She does look a little sleepy..though..she was running around with me trying to set up for the party. Matt is Cousin Mose from "The Office." I think he looked great! And I just needed something so I got a cool wig and a witch's hat just to be festive. It was funny because nobody recognized me..hmmm...maybe I should wear the wig more often! :)

Madeline's Cure-all

It's really funny to watch Madeline getting more particular about things.  She's become an expert at a very high-pitched whine.  She knows what she wants and what she doesn't....

She loves music.  You can hear her singing quite frequently.  I have recently noticed that the song "popcorn popping" and all of  its hand movements will make her snap out of any of her "moments".  This includes any whining, twisting and turning while changing a diaper, protesting to getting dressed, spitting out her baby food, and crying in the back seat.  She forgets what she's doing and immediately get's wide-eyed and tries to move her hands to the motions.

A close second is the book "Jamberry" by Bruce Degen.  She loves all books, but seems especially enamored with this one which is weird because it doesn't have any "lift the flaps" or "touch and feel" - just silly rhymes and lots of pictures of berries.

I'm so glad Madeline loves books and songs -  I just never imagined they'd help me keep my sanity!

Goat-a-phobia

Besides Madeline's obvious aversion to goats and their twitching ears, my favorite part is the little boy explaining to the other kids that goats WILL bite you. Do you think that's from personal experience or a very repetitive mommy?

Moms, daughters, and avocados

Avocados were on sale this week and I LOVE avocados. Every time my mom and I get together, we make a special little open-faced sandwich: toast with mayo, sliced avocados and salt. Yum! And it always reminds me of my mom, which is fun. Anyway, so today I made myself such a sandwich and thought I would share the joy of avocados with MY daughter. Well, here's how it went....

Maybe we'll have to find a different tradition.

I'm 7 months old!

My mom is cleaning the bathroom and she's making me have some tummy time. Since I can now roll over both ways I commandeered the laptop to write my first post!

I'm 7 months old this week! Can you believe what a big girl I am? I always keep my mom and dad laughing. I have figured out how to growl in this low hoarse voice and shriek in a very high pitched one! I like to sing when I hear music, when I'm tired and when I think no one is listening, It's pretty easy to get a laugh out of me since I'm an easy going girl. The only time I get grumpy is when I'm really tired. Can you blame me?

I am fascinated with my hands, so I like to look at them and use them to grab EVERYTHING, especially hair. I love to read books. My favorite is about farm animals and I always giggle at the page with the fuzzy duck that says "Quack Quack".

I prefer sitting now to laying down. When I'm on my back I do sit ups trying to get back up. I also like practicing standing while holding on to things. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my fisher price jumperoo. I've figured out how to jump on one foot and swivel around to play with all the toys.

I'm a little bit picky when it comes to eating. I'll take green beans and peas over fruit any day!

I have big pretty eyes that are turning brown. Daddy is so happy about this. And everyone always comments on all my inquisitive facial expressions and my extremely long eyelashes. I'm loving this world that I get to explore and I especially love playing with my best buddy, Daddy!

Until next month....

Beach Bums

Matt's family takes a yearly vacation to Newport Beach, CA. Madeline and I stayed up at the beach house for the whole week. Matt had to be at the hospital a lot, but managed to join us a few times. We had a blast! Madeline was a pretty good girl, but I soon realized this little turkey depends on a schedule and regular naps for her happiness. By the end of the week she was a grump. Despite the little attitude, her aunties and grandparents loved seeing her and they had a fun time playing. With the extra helpers, I managed to get a slight tan and finish the first two books of the Twilight series. Matt's dad took most of the pictures, but here are a few until I can get ahold of some more.

Thanks for the great vacation, guys! We loved seeing you.

Oh, and it took only two days, (of lots of crying and wanting to be held all the time) but Madeline is back to her 3 naps and 11 hour nights and going to bed without any wailing (most of the time). Serenity now....

Freshman Roommates and a Week Full of Fun

Matt had a week off between taking his board exams and starting his rotations. One of the benefits of living in beautiful La Jolla, is that people want to come visit! Two of my freshman roommates (and one husband) came to stay with us and we had a blast. A lot of time was devoted to the beach of course, but we found some time for a Padres game, disc golf, the zoo, BBQs, restaurants, and the Wii. Madeline was glad to have some new people around to play with. What a great week! Thanks for visiting, guys.
We missed our other three roommates. Two were due with babies and the other was in school. Here is a picture of all of us freshman year. So much fun and so much drama but we all are great friends and still keep in touch.

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July.  Matt was supposed to be working at the hospital at least until 5, but they let him off at 11 am! And he had Saturday and Sunday off too.  Life couldn't get any better.  This called for a party...  So we were beach bums the whole day with some of our friends.  There was tons of food, games and waves.  Madeline was a great girl.  She slept and played as she pleased.  We ended the day with a great BBQ and settled in to wait for the fireworks show down the coast.  What could be more awesome than fireworks on the beach?  Madeline missed her first fireworks as she was snuggled asleep in my arms.

We are so blessed to live in this country and enjoy the freedoms that we have.

6 months going on 2

Madeline is 6 months old this week.  She has gotten extra cute but extra whiney too! Just recently she has figured out how to arch her back and kick her legs to throw little fits.  She can turn it on and off whenever she feels like it.  It begins....  Most of the time, though, Madeline is really smiley and friendly. She especially loves her mommy and daddy.  When Matt gets home in the evenings we watch for him out the window and she gets so excited when she sees him. Madeline is enjoying her solid foods, although she likes to take her time to eat.  She is working on sitting up by herself and learning some sign language. Today we had her six month check up.

Height - 25.5" - 50%
Weight - 14lbs 10 oz - 25%

We sure love our little Madeline Marie.  She makes us so happy.

Sunday Walks

We've been taking Sunday walks on the beach.  Even after two years, I still can't believe that we get to live here.  The smell and breeze are so wonderful.  Here are a few pictures.  Madeline loved putting her toes in the cold water and the warm sand.  She DID NOT enjoy putting her feet under the shower to wash her off.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

It's been three years today! I had a fun time reminiscing while showing Madeline our wedding album this morning. Marriage is wonderful and has taught me so many things. It helps to have a great husband to share life with. This last week, Matt said he loved me way more than when we got married. It's amazing how that happens: you seem SO in love when you're dating, but the challenges and trials and memories that occur over time create a real love and a foundation to build on. And now with Madeline in our lives, it makes our future even more exciting. Here's to us and a long happy life :) Happy Anniversary, Matt. I sure love you.

Who says having poopy pants can't be fun?

Five months old and already so silly.
I sure love this girl.
