Camping Surprise

We went camping a couple of weeks ago. The campsite was about an hour and a half east of San Diego, but the elevation was 4000 feet. When we arrived, we were quite surprised to find that it had SNOWED 6 inches the night before! We didn't expect snow in southern california in April or at all! Despite the cold we had a great time. Luckily we were mostly prepared for chilly weather. My toes were cold all night, but Matt and Madeline slept great.

Big Announcements

The first is...

We're having a BOY! I've felt all along that I was having a boy, but it's nice to have it confirmed. Matt was almost giddy when he heard the news. He was beaming :)

Having a second baby and an opposite gender has gotten me thinking about the differences I might encounter. I have felt like having a little girl for the past two years has come pretty naturally. I'm not sure how it will be having a boy, although I've heard mom and son relationships are something special too. Madeline has always been fairly mild tempered. No destruction, writing on walls, spilling things ln purpose or wreaking havoc. I don't really worry about her when she's in another room and is quiet for a long time. I usually find her reading quietly or playing house with her dolls. I wonder if I'm due for an energetic, curious, rambunctious boy? I'm excited to have one of each and although there will be adjusting, I'm sure Madeline will be helpful and a good big sister.

Two: Madeline is potty training and it is actually going surprisingly well! Last week we hung out at home and did the wear only underwear thing. At the beginning I thought I might give up. Definitely not one of my favorite jobs as a parent. Not having a washer and dryer with all of the accidents was not very fun, either. But it seemed to click after the first couple of days. She still wears a diaper some of the time and she consistently tells me she has to go and is quite proud of herself. I have been pleasantly surprised the last two days that she has been dry. I'm ready for setbacks and accidents and am not quite ready to go to underwear full time, but I think we've made progress and she seems thrilled with herself. Whenever anybody comes over, she tells them that she went pee. Sometimes she wants to bring her potty out and is ready to give them a demonstration. Next thing to work on is modesty...

And this picture is just for fun. Madeline loves to accessorize. She found one of my headbands and has been wearing it all morning.

What we've been up to...

Mini Golf -
They gave Madeline her own ball and club. Of course she picked pink. She held on to that ball so tightly. She loves things that are just her size, so she wouldn't hit the ball for fear she would lose it. She just followed us around each hole carrying her ball and club.

Disneyland -
Matt's sisters came to visit and we decided to go to Disneyland. We had a lot of fun. Madeline was especially excited about the princesses. We took her on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (see picture below - she looks awfully tired) and she actually fell asleep on the ride! We waited in a very long line to meet Mickey. When she finally saw him, she freaked out. As we were leaving she kept repeating, "I don't like Mickey, I don't like Mickey." Now she still says she doesn't like Mickey, but does like Minnie. (We didn't see Minnie there, so I'm sure she would change her mind if we'd actually encountered her in person.)

Easter -
We had a little egg hunt and Madeline loved it. Again, she likes little things just her size. She wanted desperately to carry all of the eggs in her arms instead of the basket. We had good friends over, made a yummy BBQ and even made little easter cupcakes. (Thanks, Martha Stewart!)

Getting Dressed-
Madeline is really into dressing herself. I often find her room with clothes everywhere. She has 3 or 4 items of clothing that she just loves to put on. All are pink. Sometimes she comes out of her room looking like a piece of cotton candy. She has also been going through her baby headbands and puts on 2 or 3 to really make the outfit.

A Beautiful Home

I have lots of fun activities to report on, but for now I wanted to share my sister's incredible house. It was built in 1904 and they have COMPLETELY redone everything and it looks amazing. She just put it on the market because they want to move to closer to family. Do you know anyone that wants to move to Sandpoint, ID? :) It's good to have Cassi around because she is the remodeling queen!
